Frequently asked questions

What exactly does Art of Mind offer?
Art of Mind is an independent practice offering counselling for children, teenagers and parents. It provides play-based work with children, individual counselling for teenagers, parent counselling, parent-child work and seasonal programmes for children.
Which age groups do you work with?
I work with children, teenagers and parents. Because one age range is not thought to suit every way of working, the child’s age and needs are assessed separately in the first meeting. Mindfulness and compassion-based group programmes for the 6 to 12 age group may also be offered from time to time.
In which language are the sessions held?
Sessions can be held in Turkish and English.
Where do the sessions take place?
In-person sessions in Helmond and online sessions are both available. The address for in-person sessions is shared when the appointment is made.
Can sessions with children be held online?
That depends on the child’s age and the nature of the work. In-person sessions may be more suitable, especially for play-based work with younger children.
Should the child be at the first meeting?
Not always. In some cases it helps to speak with the parent first, to understand the child’s situation better.
What if my child does not want to come?
A child not wanting to come to counselling is information that needs to be taken seriously. It can be more meaningful to first try to understand the reason for the reluctance.
How many sessions are needed?
There is no single answer decided in advance. After the first sessions, a suitable framework for the work is set together and reviewed as the process moves forward.
Is parent counselling only for when there are problems with the child?
No. Parent counselling can also take place before any clear problem appears, to understand the child better, to reflect on the parent-child relationship, or to make space for the experience of parenting in a changing period of life.
Do you make diagnoses?
No. The work at Art of Mind takes place within a counselling framework. Making diagnoses, medical assessments, prescribing medication or writing medical reports are outside the scope of this work.
Are the sessions covered by health insurance?
Sessions at Art of Mind are paid for privately and are not set up as a health care service covered by health insurance. For up-to-date information about fees and payment terms, you are welcome to get in touch.
Are the sessions confidential?
Information shared in sessions is handled within a framework of confidentiality. When working with children and teenagers, confidentiality is a subject that needs to be handled separately according to age and the nature of the situation. Details are in the privacy notice.
Does Art of Mind provide health care?
No. Art of Mind is a counselling practice. No diagnosis is made here, no medication is prescribed and no medical intervention is carried out.
Can I turn to Art of Mind in an emergency?
No. Art of Mind does not offer emergency or crisis intervention. In urgent health situations, please turn to the appropriate health services in the Netherlands, and in a life-threatening situation call 112.
What should I do if I need to cancel my appointment?
The terms for cancelling and rescheduling are shared when the appointment is made.
