How it works
- First contact
You can briefly say why you are getting in touch by WhatsApp or email. At this stage you do not need to write a detailed story about your child. - Introductory conversation
In the first meeting, the family’s reason for getting in touch, the current situation of the child or young person and expectations are discussed. The aim of this meeting is not to reach a conclusion straight away. - Getting to know the child and family
If the work will be with a child, it matters that the parent shares information about the child’s development, family structure, life circumstances and the reason for getting in touch. The child’s strengths matter at least as much as the areas they find difficult. - Working with the child or young person
The form of the work takes shape according to the age, developmental characteristics and needs of the child or young person. No ready-made programme is applied to every family. - Contact with parents
The work done with the child is not limited to the child alone. It matters that parents are kept informed about the process and, when needed, that things are reviewed together. - Reviewing the process
In counselling, the aim is not to hold as many sessions as possible. What the work is serving is looked at again at regular intervals. - Closing
How a counselling process ends matters as much as how it begins. When working with a child, the ending is discussed as far ahead as possible and space is made for the child to say goodbye.
An important boundary
Art of Mind is a counselling practice. No diagnosis is made here, no medication is prescribed and no medical intervention is carried out. If it is thought that a child or young person needs a medical or psychiatric assessment, this is discussed openly with the family.
